Hello Friends,

Welcome to this issue of Wavelength.

It is time we retrieved ourselves from the depths of
turtlenecks and cast away the heavy, restraining woolens
to feel the play of soft-cool wind and warm, benign sun
on our skins. The joy of creation and recreation is what
we wish to experience in this beautiful month. We wish
to chain neither our bodies nor our minds to our desks.
This month, we stop and smell the flowers and review our
lives to make them better! Let us try to find the reason
behind whatever we do, both in our professional and
personal lives as only by knowing why we are doing what
we are will help us make our mark!

We bring to you a conceptual framework to understand
knowledge management from the instructional designer's
perspective, in the Mystery of the Month article for this
month. The article "Knowing Knowledge Management" attempts
to forge an understanding of the concept by reviewing the
need for its existence and exploring the working of the
corresponding systems. It also provides a directional list
of what the learning management technology expects from
the instructional designer.

There has been a long-standing need for eLearning
professionals other than those engaged in instructional
design to express their ideas more emphatically in the
language that our industry uses, which is English.
Wavelength launches the EPCEC course to fulfill this

Mystery of the Month

So...were you able to solve the mystery of the missing link
for the MoM article for January? It was missing as I got
carried away with the New Year and Wavelength Anniversary
celebrations; and forgot to include it in the MoM section

1. While designing instruction, there is often the issue
of balancing brevity with clarity. Flowcharts can help
manage this issue to a great extent by providing a common
visual language for all who are involved in the design

take you off-guard! If you are waiting for me to tell you
what is special about this site, well, here I go...

1. I love the way this site loads. A word of caution: This
site will lap up all your system resources, so make sure
that none of the other memory-guzzling applications are
running when you click on this link. It is also possible
that the site may load slowly if you are on a machine with
RAM less than 256 MB. In such case, I recommend that you
let the site load at its own sweet speed then hit the
Refresh button. It will load quickly the next time.

2. What I was saying was that I love the way this site
loads. It begins slowly, and then builds up into panels
made of frosted glass. The pale blue of the site
complements the glass and the beautifully animated logo
of Simply Interactive at the left.

3. The logo animation is fabulous! If you want to add a
similar effect to the intro animation of your new course,
share this link with your media friends! Who knows
where great things begin! They might throw their keyboards
at you, but then that is entirely between you and them.

4. The way buttons in the left column load is cool! The
loading is smooth, the rollover effects are soft and
supple, and the effect of clicking is...tremendous! An
animated mosaic transitions into a photograph; The effect
is stunning! Checkout all the menu items; each has a
different effect.

5. Checkout the arrow that zooms down from the top left
corner of the text area, hits the bottom corner, and
then returns with the text.

6. Click on the sub-menus to see their cool rollovers.

7. The scroll bars move with a grace that matches the
overall environment.

8. I can't say if the red color panel in the bottom left
corner is in sync with the overall color theme. Some may
say it is not, but I feel that it brings warmth to the
overall snowy-icy feel of the site. I like that dash of
color, which in all probability was added out of sheer
necessity (the panel launches a page in red.)
