From the Editor's Desk - August 2005
Welcome to this issue of Wavelength.
I don’t know how to be cheery and feel glad about monsoon
after the havoc it played in Mumbai, so I won’t spend much
time talking about weather, and move on to what Wavelength brings
to you this month.
This month, the “Mystery
of the Month” features Entertainment-based Learning, with
a hope that it will help us cut the ropes that keep us bound to
our traditional teaching methods. We are already experiencing entertainment
undercurrents in the industry. Courses are being redone to incorporate
more interactivity and interest. Clients today expect us to create
online games, relevant crosswords, and include interesting storylines
and themes to make sure that their online audience stays awake.
The point that this article tries to make is that entertainment
is becoming an essential component of learning, especially in the
case of eLearning. As usual, the article proposes a few tips for
the uninitiated and hopes that along with our international counterparts,
we will be able to change the stern face of learning into a more
welcoming and amicable one.
In this issue we also conclude the serial, “Managers
of Creativity.” The serial that shall begin in September
will focus on “Accessibility.”
Wavelength started its Instructional Design & Content Writing
Certificate (IDCWC) course on July 03, 2005. The course received
an excellent response and generated immense interest. On July 17,
2005, Wavelength successfully conducted its 2nd IDO workshop. The
success of this IDO workshop was evident in the registrations for
the 2nd IDCWC course group, which is completely booked and begins
on Aug 07, 2005. Registrations are now open for the 3rd IDCWC course
group beginning on August 28, 2005.
I welcome the new subscribers to Wavelength. It’s through
the encouragement and support of its readers that Wavelength continues
to build this repository of ID knowledge. I thank you all for helping
Wavelength grow.
Warm Regards,
Shafali R. Anand.
