Welcome to the August 2006 issue of Wavelength.
This month was relatively cool. I don’t mean it figuratively,
but literally. Delhi experienced many cooling showers in the first
half of July and the temperature has been in a comfortable range.
The nectar that rained from the heavens has brought new life to
many; plants that were almost dead and people who had almost resigned
to fate began contemplating life again. Plants sent out soft, green
shoots announcing their will to live, people changed tasks, even
jobs; learning new skills, reversing the process of aging. Even
organizations that had aged turned a new leaf as the silvery crystals
of rain, made them form new relationships through acquisitions or
through expansion.
It is possible that I am trying to connect rains with everything
positive that I see happening around. I think I am doing it because
the effect of rains is the same as the effect of a planned, positive
move. They both result in growth. For humans, growth needs to take
place in a planned manner, only then it enhances the value that
we build in life. Unplanned moves, result in unplanned, erratic
growth –and so they result in the growth of weeds too.
Philosophy aside, this seems to have been a good month. Many
of our students who are now working with different eLearning and
training organizations in senior positions, tell us that the industry
is doing exceptionally well. They also tell us how they are instrumental
in establishing new practices, and how their organizations are synergizing
with their individual expertise to systematize the learning creation
processes. We wish them and their organizations all the best!
This month, Wavelength’s Mystery
of the Month, reviews the factors that motivate the young Indian
adult learner to acquire certificates that are not backed by ability
that they profess to certify! The Analysis phase of the instructional
design process also entails an analysis of the learner’s reasons
for taking a course or training (Dick & Carey, Systematic Instructional
Design,) and so these reasons are valid grounds for research. The
article tries to review learner motivation in view of the Indian
societal framework.
The Site of the Month for August, should receive a special
mention. For long, I have been a fan of 2Advanced (most who are
passionately in love with the creative powers of Flash must be 2Advanced
fans)! I’ve watched their site releases; I’ve seen many
other excellent Flash sites…but never did I see a site executed
with such finesse and expertise. I feel that all of us should check
it out. It will help us raise the bar for our designs.
The first four Course Groups of the "IDCWC
Online course" are almost midway in their journey. They
are making excellent progress, and we are confident that they are
going to be prime assets for the Indian eLearning and Training industries.
The next course groups for the ASDC and IDCWC contact courses will
begin classes on August 13, 2006 and September 03, 2006; respectively.
The much-awaited, FREE
Instructional Design Orientation workshop will be held on August
20, 2006. If you are interested in attending this workshop, please
register.
I wish you all, the very best in whatever you do. This month
Wavelength will reach 1500 subscribers across India and around the
world. Thanks for connecting; we hope you will enjoy your relationship
with Wavelength.
Warm Regards,
Shafali R. Anand.
