Hello Friends,
Welcome to the August ’07 edition of Wavelength’s
Instructional Design Newsletter.
Turning over a new leaf…this phrase acquires a lot more
color and meaning when the Monsoon season is about to end. Almost
the entire plant kingdom has donned new clothes, having shed their
old ones – they’ve all entered into a new phase of their
lives. I am sure, if the plants would celebrate their new year,
they would celebrate it at the beginning of the Monsoon season.
This little talk about nature sets a nice, lush scene for this
month’s Mystery
of the Month article. Though this may not be the time of appraisal
in many organizations, but the relationship that the annual appraisal
and its “intended” effects share with Monsoon and its
effects on the Plant kingdom, cannot be denied. Just the way appraisals
are conducted to sustain and reward performance for infusing life
in organizations – the Monsoon infuses life into the plants.
Appraisals help people turn over a new leaf…if need be! This
is exactly what the appraisals should do – but do they?
This month’s Mystery
of the Month article, “A New Leaf – Performance Vs.
Training” discusses the issue of performance and how it
relates to training. This article should be of interest to the training
managers who act as consultants for their organization’s operations
department. The complexities of the human mind result in equally
complex appraisals and so analyzing the reason(s) behind a person’s
lackadaisical performance could be humongous task. This article
tries to dig out some of these reasons and classify them for the
training manager’s advantage.
