From the Editor's Desk - January
2006

Welcome to the "Anniversary Issue" of Wavelength. This month, Wavelength completes one year in circulation and existence.

It was on January 04, 2006 that Wavelength’s first issue arrived in the mailboxes of 68 eLearning industry professionals. Subscriptions began to come in, and their arrival accelerated towards the second half of the year – This issue of Wavelength will reach more than 1050 content professionals across the Indian eLearning industry. I am overwhelmed with the love and affection that Wavelength has received from the industry. I promise to make each issue of Wavelength more pertinent to your work and better connected to your aspirations than its predecessor.

During 2005, Wavelength grew not only as a newsletter but also as a consulting & training firm and became Wavelength eLearning Consulting and Training (WeLCT). It began offering the Instructional Design & Content Writing Certificate (IDCWC) course in July 2005. This was followed by the introduction of ActionScript Developer Certificate (ASDC) course in October and the Object Oriented Development in ActionScript 2.0 Certificate (OODAC) course (scheduled to start in January.) In addition to this Wavelength organized Free Instructional Design Orientation (IDO) and ActionScript Orientation (ASO) workshops.

This month, Wavelength introduces a section for the third and also the most vibrant dimension of eLearning industry. Through the media section, Wavelength hopes to bring into focus the information needs of the eLearning media professional. “The Dazzler” contest is the highlight of this section.

As an anniversary gift, Wavelength also brings you Innoken Games - a collection of 30 online games; all conceptualized, visualized, created, and programmed in India by Innoken – I recommend “Holi Hues” and “Challenge of the Cannibals.” When you want to take a break next, click on http://www.innoken.com/games.htm.

The Mystery of the Month article for January goes by the name “Instructional Design – Theory OR Practice.” It tries to put a finger on a sore spot! This article brings into focus the misconception ingrained in the minds of some practicing instructional designers, which is that theory is alien to practice. The serial “eLearning Project Management” gathers speed with this issue, and focuses on some eLearning specific project management concepts.

The third group of ASDC and the fifth group of IDCWC will begin classes on January 15, 2006. The profiles and views of ASDC CG1 and IDCWC CG4 students are posted on the site. The sixth FREE Instructional Design Orientation (IDO) workshop is scheduled for January 08, 2006. On popular request, the timings of the winter workshops have been changed to 2:00 PM (from the earlier time of 11:00 AM). If you would like to come over for an ID discussion with me, do register for the workshop.

I wish you all, the best of the best in the New Year. May this year fill your lives with love & laughter, health & happiness.

Warm Regards,

Shafali R. Anand.
