From the Editor's Desk - March 2005
Welcome to the March issue of Wavelength. The morning fog is
on the verge of leaving …it will also take along the romance
of the steaming cup of tea and the tenderly warm touch of sun. We
will miss them all, but not yet. March is a beautiful month; it
will captivate us for a while, until it delivers us into the scorching
lap of summer.
Let’s change with the weather, wash away the dust that has
accumulated in the chambers of our minds; this month, let’s
talk about plagiarism. This month, the “Mystery of the Month”
features – Plagiarism, a word that lurks in the dark, undusted
attics of our minds. We don’t want to take it out; we don’t
want to acknowledge it as our own. We don’t want to throw
it out too, for that would also mean acknowledging.
I devoted considerable amount of time this month, figuring out how
we as a nation, stand in the global arena of writing ethics. The
results were not heartening. I implore you to do some research on
your own to understand the gravity of this issue. What you will
probably realize is that ignorance is the reason behind this state.
And if ignorance is the root to this evil, it’s we, the instructional
designers, who need to carry the flame of knowledge to destroy the
root.
I welcome your thoughts and ideas on how we can work towards uprooting
plagiarism. India has an extraordinary ability to create; we just
need to look around us to see how much. We need to preserve it,
despite the lack of time and resources.
Before we move on, I’d like to thank and welcome the new subscribers.
Each new subscription email is special to me, it means so much more
than the two words printed in the subject-line. To me it signifies
coming together of a force that is much stronger than many others
– the force of the written word.
I wish you a wonderfully productive and thoughtful month ahead.
When flowers bloom in March, they give us the message of life and
change; let this message put a bounce in your step and a smile on
your lips.
Thanks and Warm Regards,
Shafali R. Anand.
