From the Editor's Desk - March
2006

Welcome to the March 2006 issue of Wavelength.

This month we celebrate spring, and with spring we celebrate the gift of life. Wavelength wishes all of you a colorful, fun-filled, and lively Holi. Everything around us turns so beautiful in March. The trees wear new leaves and flowers that ripple in the soft March breeze and the grass blades wear dewdrops that shimmer in the morning light. Even the winter pups have grown into adolescence; they gambol and play without a worry to crease their brows. Everything and everyone around us is singing the song of spring…why then, we humans, the most intelligent of all beings, confine our imaginations and ourselves to our cubicles and cabins?

I think we do so because we live our lives by the rules that we didn’t write. Had we written the rules, we would’ve kept some time aside to collect memorable memories. The question is, can we still find some quality time. The answer is, we can probably transform some of our poor quality time into high quality time, by improving the processes that we work with. We can free time from rework, painful discussions, and late night stays; and use it to live the only life that we have…to whatever extent possible!

Almost all companies in the eLearning industry outsource some or the other skill, and anyone who has been involved in the process knows how outsourcing brings down the quality of our lives. This month Wavelength focuses its lenses on outsourcing of instructional design, through the article “Outsourcing Instructional Design – Bane to Boon!” This article explores the nooks and crannies of the instructional design outsourcing process in India and digs out the reasons behind its possible failure. According to the Wavelength tradition, this article also suggests some simple guidelines, which if followed can help both the organization as well as the freelance instructional designer in bringing the process to a happy and successful conclusion.

This March Wavelength begins its journey to your hearts from a new home. Wavelength eLearning Consulting & Training has shifted its corporate office to Link House, 2nd Floor, Sector 10, Noida – 201301, India. I request all of you to update your address books.

Wavelength also launches a new ActionScript course this month. ActionScript 2.0 with Object-Oriented Programming Concepts Certificate (AS2OOP) Course starts on March 25, 2006. Programmers with good understanding of programming concepts in ActionScript are welcome to master ActionScript 2.0 and develop their understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts through this course.

The Effective Professional Communication in English Certificate (EPCEC) course has already caught the imagination of those who wish to excel in their careers by removing the nagging thorn of inadequate command over professional English usage. The first course group commenced classes on February 26, 2006. The next group begins classes on March 24, 2006. The next groups for IDCWC and ASDC also start in March.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all our subscribers, students, and clients, who are the spirit of Wavelength and inspire us to move forward.

Warm Regards,

Shafali R. Anand.
