From the Editor's Desk - November 2005
Welcome to the November issue of Wavelength.
The pretty and petite November that had promised to bring with
it bright lights and brilliant fireworks now shivers fragile and
white, shaken by the serial blasts that shook Delhi on the eve of
October 30, 2005. Something isn’t right with the world we
live in. I have this strange and eerie feeling that the human society
is beginning to hate itself, and this hatred seeps through the veneer
of humanity, when events such as these take place.
Media has been talking a lot about Delhi coming back to its
normal vibrant self. As a community we can, as individuals it is
impossible to come to terms with such bestiality. But then, as individuals,
is there anything that we can do to reduce such inhuman incidents?
I don’t know the answer to this question, but I often think
that if each of us tried to do our best in whatever we do, we may
be able to improve the quality and value of life. Our contributions
may seem too little when viewed individually, but as a whole we
could leave a better world behind.
To continue with life, we need to push emotions to the back
of our minds, using them to reinforce our resolve to do our best
in whatever we do and that brings us back to creation of eLearning
content – our job! None of us can do this job alone, content
development is always team-effort, and probably the most important
member of this team, is the Subject Matter Expert. Wavelength’s
November Mystery of the Month is devoted to
discovering the true identity of this deity that content professionals
worship.
I hope that all of us who have interacted with an “SMA”
will find time to read this; and as I can hope as much as I want
to, I hope that they will find it useful. This article will try
to piece together facts that we all know and list some helpful tips
for “selection” and “management” of the
deity under discussion.
The serial, “Different Dimension
of Accessibility” ends with this issue. For all those
who are interested in finding out what the next serial is about,
here’s a clue: The next serial will focus on one of the growth
paths an instructional designer may take.
Do remember to check out the Site of the Month for November.
It is fantastic! Caution: Do not drive after browsing through the
site.
Wavelength launched its ActionScript
Developer Certificate (ASDC) course last month. Classes for
the first ASDC course group and the fourth IDCWC
course group began on October 23, 2005. The next course groups
for both courses are scheduled to begin on November 27, 2005. Bookings
have already started for the November course groups. We are also
organizing IDO-V, the FREE Instructional
Design Orientation workshop on November 16, 2005.
I would like to thank all of you for your interest and affection.
I hope the new year, Samvat 2061 will bring health, happiness, and
prosperity to all of you and your families.
Warm Regards,
Shafali R. Anand.
