Welcome to the November issue of Wavelength.
Last week I fell in love with November. Let me tell you why.
Recently I had begun to believe that many beautiful insects that
we used to see in our childhoods have become extinct. I thought
that the only butterflies that one could see now were the lemon
yellow butterflies with plain wings; and that the only birds were
the gray pigeons that were interested only production (of guano)
and reproduction! November has proved me delightfully wrong! Many
different butterflies, beetles, and birds still make our world beautiful.
They are still here, telling us that life is beautiful…imploring
us to put our worries behind us and smile; as the soft November
sunlight caresses our foreheads.
As the November sun runs its fingers through your hair, coloring
them with an exotic warm golden glow; fill your cup with a beverage
of your choice, print a copy of your newsletter and find a place
where the work-worries cannot find you. Tough? I bet it is. It isn’t
easy to steal a moment from a schedule that is packed with deadlines!
Or is it?
Well…I should not twist the concept out of shape. Instead
I should come straight to the point. If we do what we do, knowing
why we do it…we will not only be happier doing our jobs, we
would also be saving a lot of time. For instance, if we knew our
audience well, we would not only be happier creating content for
them, we would also save a lot of time that we spend reworking…trying
to make the content more palatable to the audience. Rework seldom
achieves the results that a fresh, relevant piece of content does…after
all, no amount of patchwork can correct a flawed design –
and a flawed design is what we create when we don’t understand
our audience. This month’s article “Yours
Affectively” discusses how different types of
audience information connect to form the audience’s reaction
to any learning.
This November, Wavelength is holding its Autumn Training Workshops
from November 20 to December 01, 2006. We thank the organizations
that are participating in the workshops for instructional design
and ActionScript, and we welcome the participants to Wavelength.
We request the organizations that have contacted slightly late to
bear with us…we shall shortly announce the Spring counterpart
of these workshops, which will be held in Late February and Early
March. If you are interested, please contact us early to book seats
for your participants.
We are also happy to publish the
views of the IDCWC Online session I participants, at the Wavelength
site. Click http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/wavelengthians.htm#idcwconlineviews
to read their views on the IDCWC Online course. Thanks so much for
placing faith in Wavelength and accompanying us on our journey to
quality instructional design. Through this course, we’ve forged
a bond that shall always remain…wherever we go.

Wavelength, and some more time to enjoy the soft November sunshine
with your loved ones.
Warm Regards,
Shafali R. Anand.
