From the Editor's Desk - October
2006                                         Previous Editorials >>>

Welcome to the October issue of Wavelength.

October has, among many other things, brought to us the promise of winter. October is a beautiful month – as one of the IDCWC participants recently mentioned – you really can’t choose between good things. You can’t say whether one is better than the other – things that make us feel good are good…and that is that! Well, for the twelve months and the four seasons, this statement is almost true.

Yet, the Indian October is more beautiful than any of the other months. It is so because it is the month of festivals. We’ve already lit the pyre under evil represented by Ravana and his cronies; and we are now ready to welcome good into our lives and hearts by lighting its path on Diwali. October is colorful, it is fragrant, it shimmers with pure delight, and it brims full of hope!

In this beautiful month of October, let us review our jobs and determine how we can enrich this world more than we already do. This month, Wavelength addresses those who’ve made us who we are – those who have molded us into the intelligent, logical, productive, inventive geniuses of India. You are right – this month we address the training and education professional of India. More specifically, this month the spotlight is on the trainers, the professors, the lecturers, and the teachers of India.

The Mystery of the Month article for October “The Footprints of Instructional Design in your Classroom” addresses the question that many training and education professionals grapple with. “Is instructional design for us?” they question. The answer of course, is a resounding, resonating “yes,” but the “yes” doesn’t suffice. The intelligent minds of those who engage in transfer of learning in classrooms, wouldn’t accept an unjustified “yes” for an answer. They would like to know the “how” and “why” of this connection. The aim of this article is to explore the connection from the classroom-learning viewpoint.

This issue of Wavelength also features a Guest Article, “Blended Learning: The Right Cocktail for Corporate Training,” by Manish Chandra, Group Manager, Bharti Comtel Ltd. This article outlines the need to balance the use of eLearning with classroom training, in order to effectively implement trainings for the corporate audience.

The Autumn Workshops registrations have begun. These workshops are designed for organizations that would like to sponsor participants for Instructional Design or ActionScript 2.0. These workshops closely simulate the Instructional Design & Content Writing Certificate (IDCWC) course and the ActionScript Developer Certificate (ASDC) course (the ASDC workshop will be implemented using AS2.0 and an additional module on Object-Oriented Programming.)

These workshops shall be held between November 20 and December 01, 2006.

If you are interested in attending these workshops, please discuss it with your respective project managers or training heads. The fees and discount details (yes, there are some excellent discounts on the basis of the number of participants,) can be received by writing to autumnworkshops@vibrantwavelength.com.

NEWS!
Wavelength launches an instructional design course for the experienced professionals. The Instructional Design Refresher Certificate (IDRC) course addresses the needs of those seasoned professionals who have two or more years of experience in the areas of eLearning or training; and who now wish to determine the mechanics of instructional design that supports their work. The seasoned eLearning professional of Indian eLearning and training industry, though is extremely competent on the practical front; experiences a painful void when it comes to mapping his or her experiences to instructional design theories, models, and systems. This six-week course for which classes will be held on Saturday afternoons is an attempt to fill this void.

The details of this course are available at:
http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/idrc_details.htm

If you are interested in enrolling for this course, please review whether you have the required work-experience – then call Wavelength at 9810324284/9810412297/120-4315505. Please note that the Instructional Design Refresher Certificate (IDRC) course is currently being offered only at a contact course at Noida (Delhi – NCR.)

The first session of the IDCWC Online course ended on September 30, 2006 and the second session began on October 01, 2006. The next session of the IDCWC Online course is scheduled to begin on January 01, 2006. If you are interested in enrolling for a learning experience worth experiencing, send us your queries at idcwconline@vibrantwavelength.com

The next course groups for the ASDC Course and IDCWC Contact Course are scheduled to begin on October 29, 2006. If you are interested in enrolling for either courses, please call us or write to us. The first course group for the Instructional Design Refresher Certificate (IDRC) course is scheduled to begin classes on December 09, 2006.

Do find time to enjoy this issue of Wavelength, despite the festivities vying for your time and attention. May god bless you all with health and happiness! Goodbye and happy Diwali!

Warm Regards,

Shafali R. Anand.
