WAVELENGTH -- The ID Newsletter of India -- April 2010
***********************************************************

Hello Friends,

Welcome to this edition of Wavelength.

I know I should begin by writing about the weather. It is
the polite thing to do. Unfortunately, I am not good at small
talk. I prefer to come straight to the point,
make my point, listen to yours, and say Goodbye. When I
begin this newsletter by speaking of weather it isn't small
talk. It's an appreciation of the best and a respect of the
worst that life has to offer.

I am not happy about the recent changes in the
environment. A Volcano in Iceland comes alive
after 200 years of dormancy and disrupts the lives of
millions. Of course you know what's happening behind the
scenes. The Roman Fire God Vulcan (yes, volcanoes are
named after him) sits forging weapons for Mars, the God
of War! I am not implying anything - but perhaps...perhaps
bigger changes are just around the corner. Today wars aren't
just fought in the battlefields, they are fought in
parliaments, in boardrooms, and sometimes, even in
training halls!

Dear prospective trainer, are you ready for your battle?
Where are your weapons and where's your armor?
Click http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/train_the_trainer_training_design_delivery_certificate_course.htm
to prepare yourself.

Training is a battle in which both sides either win together
or lose together. When the audience loses in a training program,
the trainer too loses; and the opposite is true as well.
So explore Wavelength's Train-the-Trainer Course -
(The Training Design & Delivery Certificate (TDDC) Course)

and transform yourself into a trainer whose trainings
win all the time.

--------------------------------------------------------
The Training Design & Delivery Certificate (TDDC) Course:
(The Train-the-Trainer Program from Wavelength)
Contact Course commencing on June 06, 2010.
--------------------------------------------------------
The audience for this 2-month contact program conducted
at Wavelength, Noida, comprises young individuals with
good language skills, who wish to transform into trainers
that inspire confidence and gain the respect of their
trainees. This program focuses on the design and delivery
of effective training programs. You can apply for this course,
if you have at least one year of work experience in any
field. Additionally, you should either be a graduate or
you should be pursuing graduation.

If you are interested in the course, please visit the
course web page at: http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/train_the_trainer_training_design_delivery_certificate_course.htm

This course is offered as a contact program at Wavelength,
Noida, and the classes are held on Sundays. If you are
interested, please contact us
at 9810324284/9810412297/0120-4572760.

Now about our other programs:

All our online courses begin their next sessions on
July 01, 2010. Here are the details.

--------------------------------------------------------
The IDCWC Online - Next Session begins: July 01, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------

Certificate) Online Course Details can be found at: http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/idcwc_online.htm.

and you want to master the nuances of instructional
design for content development, you should click the
link above.

If you stay in NCR (Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad,
or nearby areas,) you should consider enrolling for
the IDCWC Contact program for which the next session is
scheduled to begin on June 06, 2010.
(details at: http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/idcwc_details.htm)
This course is offered as a 2-month intensive contact

--------------------------------------------------------
The IDSP Online- Next Session begins: July 01, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------
The IDSP (Instructional Design for Senior Professionals)
Online Course Details are available at: http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/idsp_online.htm
This 2-month online course is for professionals who
have more than four years of experience related to
learning. This course assumes that you are adept at
whatever you do - and now wish to dazzle your audience
through instructional design. The knowledge of
instructional design helps tremendously in client
interactions and team-management.

In the past, this course has been taken by
Senior Professionals ranging from Instructional
Analysts/Specialists to the Content/Training Heads of
different eLearning/Content Organizations. If you too
have a similar profile, you should apply for this course.

--------------------------------------------------------
The CWWC Online - Next Session begins: July 01, 2010
--------------------------------------------------------
The CWWC (Content Writing for the Web Certificate) Online
Course Details are available at: http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/content_writing_for_web_online.htm.

Who needs this course?
If you wish to grow professionally, you do.
I mean it.
This course isn't only for the web-professionals; it is
for people like you and me too. Irrespective of the
profession we follow, we can ignore the need of online
presentation only if we are willing to put our careers
into peril. Fortunately, many of us understand it. However,
the "how" of web-presentation eludes many. It is a
tightrope walk between pleasing the search-engines and
pleasing the audience!

Take the veil off your potential, dazzle those who
matter...online. Apply to the CWWC Online course.

Prior Learning in Adults - A Double-edged Sword?
Posted: April 08, 2010
-----------------------------------------------------------
<<<Quick Excerpt>>>
The Principle of Experience in Knowles' Andragogy suggests
"he/she accumulates a growing reservoir of experiences that
becomes a resource for learning". There's nothing wrong
with this principle. In fact, from the Cognitivist's angle,
this "reservoir of experiences" helps us design effective
learning content. But how the adult learner chooses to use
his or her prior learning, would in fact, determine whether
it would facilitate or impede the acquisition of new learning.

Here's what happened when Sloth and Froth attended a short
orientation program on Organizational Behavior...

How Should Adult Learners Learn - 6 Tips for Learning Better!
Posted: April 23, 2010
-----------------------------------------------------------

<<<Quick Excerpt>>>
...an adult might be in a training program for a variety of
reasons. These reasons could vary from "having a genuine
learning need" to "having been asked to go." Irrespective of
your reason, once you find yourself in a training, you have
committed to spend the most precious of all your resources,
your time, for the program. So, it's now in your interest
to get the best from it - even though at times, you might
find yourself in a program that has no
"immediate need/application"...

Though I often wonder whether you can truly inspire
everyone in a training program to learn, this link seems
interesting. In the article at: http://www.teachingexpertise.com/articles/motivating-every-learner-2385

An instructional designer is almost always grappling
with the x-factor in his audience. This x-factor is
deeply embedded in the audience's personality.

how personalities are shaped by culture.

Do you know about the magical number 7?
Of course you do.

You know that the number 7+-2 gives us the capacity of our
working memory. The concept of Seven Plus Minus 2 was given
by George A. Miller in his paper "The Magical Number Seven,
Plus or Minus Two: Some Limits on Our Capacity for Processing
Information", published in 1956. Miller, now nearing 90,
teaches at Princeton University's Department of Psychology.
