WAVELENGTH -- The ID Newsletter of India -- October 2009
***********************************************************
Hello Friends,
Welcome to this edition of Wavelength.
This month, I have some news to share. Wavelength has found
a new home. Though we haven't moved out of Noida but we've
found a place that's calm, quiet, and peaceful. We love the
new space, and we hope that it will help us create richer
and more fulfilling learning experiences for you. Do make
a note of this - it will help you send your course
applications to the right address, if and when you decide
to join us in an enlightening learning experience.
The 2009-2010 winters are going to be special. In our
workshop hamper, we've got something for everyone. Please
check out the workshop schedule in the Calendar section
of this newsletter.
Do you have in you what it takes to be an instructional
designer? And, even if you have it in you, do you need to
spend your time and money learning this skill? The
year 2009 has been a testing time for all of us.
At Wavelength, we don't believe in serving the same fare
to everyone - we believe that a trainer's requirement from
instructional design is different from that of an eLearning
content developer's; and both their needs are different
from what a Senior and Experienced industry professional
experiences.
While from our end, we try to differentiate between the
needs of our varied audience and create courses to meet
them; at our audience's end, we want to see a genuine
requirement for learning a specific skill. This year, we
saw confusion. We saw a desire to tuck a certificate in
the resume, irrespective of its relevance or a need for the
corresponding skill. This month's Mystery of the Month
article at http://www.vibrantwavelength.com/articles/should_i_learn_instructional_design.htm
attempts to unravel the biggest of all the ID mysteries,
"Instructional Design - Is it for me?" I hope that this
article will introduce some clarity in the thoughts of
those who are planning to learn Instructional Design.
Please spend your hard-earned money and your precious time
on learning a skill that truly maps to your innate strengths,
and which you really need for either your present or
your future job.
The Online Course Registrations for the sessions beginning
January 2010 are now open. You are welcome to apply for a
course that suits your requirements and profile. As your
applications should reach us by November 30, 2009; this is
a good time to reflect upon the courses and make your decision.
You'll find the contact email id for each of the courses
in their respective pages. I request you to please go
through the details of the courses, compare them, and select
the one that best suits your needs and profile.
Please understand that no two Wavelength courses can be taken
together, so we recommend that you apply for the course that
is the nearest match to your requirements.
The next sessions of our Contact programs are scheduled to
begin as follows:

We have some plans for the coming year. In the past four years,
Wavelength has crossed many milestones and reached across
states and countries, to connect with bright, hardworking,
and exceptional individuals; who have in turn inspired us to
do better. In the new year, we hope to continue our efforts to
bring you instructionally effective content.
I wish you all warm, cozy, and comfortable winters.
Thanks and Warm Regards,
Shafali

Kirkpatrick model is as slick and suave as it theoretically
can be - and this article at http://www.nwlink.com/~Donclark/hrd/isd/kirkpatrick.html
does complete justice to the beauty of its logic. Do read
through it and wonder about the practical issues that could
crop up while implementing the higher levels of the Kirkpatrick
model.

At http://www.newhorizons.org/strategies/technology/dede1.htm
you can read about the implications that the
new media (Internet) would have on K-12 education. The
paper states that, "By 2015, at least four new forms of
expression will shape the emergence of distributed
learning as American schools' primary pedagogical model"
and lists the four forms as: Knowledge Webs, Virtual
Communities, Synthetic Environments, and Sensory Immersion.

Mike Moore's teacher cartoons don't drip with the
rapid-fire Quick-gun Murugan kind of humor, but they
make you smile. To prove me right (or wrong) click http://speakerman1.blogspot.com/

From classroom learning to eLearning, and from teacher

it's progression, but Darwin would've called it evolution.
